On an unrelated note, if you've a hairy butt, I highly advise purchasing a bidet. I don't bother with shaving cream either. It does take work to maintain though. Yeah, sometimes the hair gets a little prickly when it's growing back, but that's when you shave it again. Here's something my friend wrote about the experience, from the other side.

Slowly, my twin mounds and the between-ravine began to resemble the hairless cheeks of a newborn baby. I shave around my butthole for wiping reasons and I've never had any problems. I put the cutting edge of the blade as far over onto my left cheek as possible and shave through my crack, over the hole and over to my right butt cheek. Rinse after each and every stroke of the blade against your skin.
